Hello, my family of 4 will be traveling to Maiori from the Salerno train station next week. After a long flight and a few hours on a train, I don’t want to struggle with luggage on a city bus so I’d like to take a taxi or look into hiring a private car. What is the difference in price and service between taxi/car service?

Can't help you with taxi/driver but have you considered taking a ferry?

The ferry would be super easy. It's just a 5 min walk downhill from train station. I don't think you would need to purchase those tix in advance. It's a lovely ride to Maori. But then you would need to get to your lodgings
Rome2rio says taxi from Salerno to Maoiri is $40- I'd expect it to be actually a good bit more and you'd need a taxi van with 4 people/luggage.
We used this transfer service for Naples- Sorrento, Soerrento-Amalfi last month and were very pleased. Here is their rate for Salerno to Amalfi coast towns. They would meet you at station and drop you at your door in Maiori.
