Private car from FCO to Civitivecchia

My husband isn't great any longer at hoofing luggage, etc., onto trains (post polio syndrome). We arrive at the Rome airport and are looking to hire a car to drive us to Civitivecchia a few days before boarding a cruise. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

We can not say enough good things about Rome Cabs which is a private car service despite the name. We've used them a number of times from the airport to Rome itself and have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. We always send an email and they answer us with a quote within 24 hours. At one time you had to pay cash (Euros) at the end of the journey, but did not have to pay anything when making the booking. I believe they have now started taking credit cards.

Hi there, kmpipkin -
Quick question? It sounds as if you're intending to stay in Civitivecchia for a few days before your ship departs? Is there a particular reason for that? Just curious as if you intend to spend those days exploring Rome, it's not a particularly convenient place to base for that amount of time. Or have I misinterpreted your post?

Romecabs - which TC recommended - sees a lot of good reviews and recommendations from other posters on the RS Italy forum who've used them.

We'll be in Rome later for over a week, and we've been to Rome before. The time change throws my husband off, so I thought it would be easier to collapse in Civitavecchia for a few days...surely there is something to see?? we rented an AirB&B for 2 nites before boarding the cruise...

Ah, good. Thanks for the additional info!

You might look into a driver to take you to Ostia Antica?

A second one vote for Romecabs. We booked them online to drive us from our B&B to the airport. The car was a Mercedes; the driver spoke English and was professional in every way. He arrived ahead of our scheduled pickup time and drove us safely to the airport. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I’ve used Sun Transfers many times in Rome and France and have always been dependable. I have them booked again in October for a transfer from Rome airport to hotel then 2 days later from hotel to cruise port. In each case the driver greets you inside the airport terminal and helps with your luggage.

I haven't read of anything in particular of interest there, so do research to make sure you don't want to spend that time somewhere else.
