I take it the Bernina Express Bus is sold out for your travel day. As has been already mentioned, you just take the Italian Trenord train to Monza, then transfer to the TILO train to Lugano for a lot less, and this actually gets you to Lugano earlier than the Bernina Express bus.
A third option is to take the Trenord train to Colico, then the C110 bus to Menaggio Piazza Roma, then change to the C112 bus to Lugano. This also gets to Lugano earlier than the Bernina Express bus (because it departs earlier), and the C112 makes stops along the north shore of Lake Lugano if your hotel is outside the city.
