I am looking for a site that I can print a small ( letter size) map of Florence and Rome. Any thoughts?
There are maps that size in the Rick Steves books.
I am old school. I recommend the streetwise, laminated map of Rome. You can buy it at just about any "big box" chain bookstore for $8. It's a great travel map. There is probably one of Florence as well.
Thanks everyone! I am looking to able to print a couple of copies that we can all write on. I have Rick's books. I will see if I can scan them and get them printed.
I used RS book in 2011 trip to Italy and had problems with RS maps. First the maps are often of a certain area (example in Rome). I was carrying a cut-out-of-the-book map of the Borghese Gallery area. When leaving the area, the entrance we had used was closed and we were directed to a different entrance/exit that was not included in that particular map. We had quite a time getting back to where we wanted to be since streets were not in a grid.
The other time we had a problem was in Naples where the RS map which had appeared to us as showing all streets actually showed some streets. So while standing on a street that was not named on the map, we had no idea if we were one block away, or two, or three etc.
This was before we had smart phones, apps, gps etc. I suggest verifying on line before your trip that whatever print map you use has all streets in the area, and also have access to a greater map if there is a chance you would venture outside the smaller map range.
Pam,
I found this great site where you'll find several maps of Rome: http://romemap360.com
Can't seem to find the same for Florence but will keep searching a bit.
Have a wonderful trip!
Pam,
Try this one for Florence: http://www.florencewebguide.com/map-of-florence-italy.html
How's this for Florence - you can down load it then you can print it out
I also love the Streetwise laminated maps. I plan to get them for Rome and Venice, but Florence doesn't seem to be available for some reason, either on RS or other shopping sites.
another vote for Streetwise maps ...great resource
you can print right out of google maps if that's all you want, down to specific neighborhoods, with restaurants, hotels and sights identified
Guys, Thanks SO much for your help. This forum is so helpful! So excited!
