We are going to Italy for the first time. I have pre-purchased tickets on-line for a train ride from Ciampiano to Fiumicino Airport for when we depart. However, I found out from the family we are staying with that the train station closest to them is Acqua Acestosa station not Ciampiano plus I received an email stating our flight has been bumped up by 45 minutes. It is a regional train. I have read on the ticket that you can use the ticket up to 4 hours after the time on the ticket but can we use it PRIOR to the time on the ticket and can we use it from Acqua Acestosa instead of Ciampiano?
As long as you validate it, I imagine you would be fine. They just want to make sure you can't use one ticket twice.
This is a good example of why it's not always wise to buy tickets online in advance. Regionale tickets in particular, as there is no price benefit and they never sell out.
sherry,
If you have a pre-purchased Regionale ticket, these do not have to be validated (they wouldn't fit in the machine anyway). Only locally purchased Regionale tickets have to be validated.
This is from the Trenitalia website regarding advance purchase tickets.....
"The ticket purchased online is already validated with the date and time of departure chosen by the customer and is valid for four hours. Different periods of use may be provided for by individual fares and other fare provisions. Departure can take place within the period of validity indicated on the ticket."
The answer is NO. Otherwise they'd write "after or before".
On the other hand, Michael is right about the benefits of not buying Regionale tickets in advance. They can't sell out. Regionale tickets purchased on-line do not need to be time-stamped and printed, either. You can just show the pdf file using an electronic device.
Ok thank you all for the information!!! Much appreciated!!
