prepaid us phone card

Is it difficult to use a regular rechargeable MCI phone card, the kind you buy at Cosco, to use in Italy. This is probably a silly question, are there payphones to call from? Everyone keeps talking about buying cell phones?

I don't know if this helps you, but 1-800 type numbers don't work in Italy, so if your card has you calling one of those, it won't work there. But you can buy cards in Italy at any of the little tabacchi shops all over the place.

In Italy, purchase the EUROPA phone card: just say "Schede telefonica, per favore: Europa." Can buy at any Tobacchi shop. Only 5 Euros, and more than 200 minutes to US using any phone, even from your hotel. Steves recommends them. We've used them 3x and it's been great.
