Prepaid Phones in Italy

I would like to get a prepaid "throw away" phone to use while I am in Italy. Where can they be purchased?

Amazon is one place.
Just search:
UNLOCKED GSM QUAD PHONE.
or you can buy one at any phone or electronic store in Italy.

Joan,

Is this going to be your one and only trip overseas? If no, I would suggest buying a used and unlocked GSM phone. My personal preference is for iPhones, but nobody is perfect...

I got a blu phone for $17 on amazon.....nothing special, just using it for calling and texting people (for which it came VERY in handy when I DROPPED OUR APARTMENT KEYS DOWN THE SEWER) and it worked fine after getting some vodaphone minutes....

If you do just want one for Italy and don't care if it works in another country, it's easiest to get one there from a phone store. You'll have to go to the store anyway to get the SIM card if you bring an unlocked phone with you.

TIM, Wind, Vodafone, and 3 run the main networks, and have stores in all the cities. They also have stores in Terminal 1 of the Rome airport, but behind security, so you can only get phones and SIM cards on arrival there if you are arriving at T1; otherwise, you can get them at Roma Termini Station.
