Pregnant while traveling throughout Italy

My hubby and I went to Italy 2 years ago and loved it so much we are going back this Sept. This time, there will be an extra traveler--we will be 23 weeks pregnant. Any advice for pregnant ladies--foods to definately avoid, comfy shoes, just in case medical care, etc.? From what I have found online, the doctor's rules differ here in the US from in Europe, so at a restaurant, I want to be careful in case I try to tell them we are pregnant and that doesn't translate. Thank you!!

In Italy they do.....My doctor here in Italy said I could have the occasional glass of wine when I was pregnant, and I did. My youngest is two, so I doubt things have changed much in the meantime.

You say "Sono incinta".
Doctors here in Italy tell pregnant women to avoid smoked things, like prosciutto crudo, so we only get to eat prosciutto cotto. They also tell you to avoid eating fruits and vegetables before washing them in water with a drop of sanitizing liquid. Obviously all cooked vegetables are fine.
Pregnant women ARE allowed to drink wine and eat soft cheeses (which apparently is a no-no in the States, right?) But other than avoiding prosciutto crudo and other sandwich meats, I don't remember worrying too much about what I was eating. In any case the food is usually much more pure without additives or coloring so Buon appetito!

Just use the advice from your USA doctor...unless there's an emergency, he's your doctor....And "allowed " or not pregnant women do not drink wine in Europe anymore

Sorry for generalizing about Europe when all i "know" is France..pregnant wine drinking is not encourged though champagne suggested at appropriate moments..And i'm sure you'll see the mom's to be at sidewalk cafés with the cigs and red wine in Paris..Exceptions to every rule, even the doctor's.

no advice really accept to have a wonderful time! just take it slow and drink a lot of water and you'll be fine (and have your doctor's # just in case, of course)

I will never forget the trip to Rome I took while pregnant with my son...and I think a close second best time in Rome was a few years ago - the first time I took him back to the same spots and saw everything again through his eyes :-) He's now 7 and rome is one of his favorite spots...who knows, maybe it sunk in back then? :-)!
