We can arrive 2 days ahead and need to get over Jetlag. We've never been to Europe, so another city/country? Then is a train ride possible to reach V?
I wouldn’t add more travel
Add the nights to Venice at start
I’d also try to add 2 more to Rome at the end, the tour only has 3 nights there.
thank you, that would be the easiest and most relaxing
Agree with ChristineH completely. You'll be glad you did, as your time in Venice before the tour will be a great introduction to one of the best cities anywhere. Extra time in Rome will give you time to wind down before returning home.
When we did VFR, we flew into Milan and visited there, and Varenna on Lake Como before taking train fro Milan to Venice. All is possible if you can understand the process.
What is VFR? Google didn't help...
Balso....Aviation abbrevation for Visual Flight Rules.
In this case, though, the OP seems to be taking Rick's Venice/Florence/Rome tour.
Agree to adding more time to Venice. Should you feel inclined to roam, Padua is a short train trip with lots to see.

Welcome to the forum!
Just an FYI for further questions--there is a section just for RIck Steves tours here:
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/tours
Most of the people who use the forum don't go on the tours, so it is helpful to post there. Also helpful to spell things out to avoid confusion.

by extension one would assume V is Venice. We see lots of abbreviations here but not usually single letters.
When I saw VFR I immediately thought of light aircraft.
All clear now though....
Thanks to all of you for great ideas! I will use the Rick Steve’s forum and I’m sorry for the abbreviation confusion. I’m learning and think I will really enjoy Italy.
