My husband and I will be going on the Southern Italy tour in May starting in Rome. We will be arriving Rome prior to the tour to get over the jet lag and would like to stay either in a village or small city/town for three nights outside of Rome or maybe a part of Rome away from all the tourist attractions as we've had the opportunity to see them before. Any suggestions for a location and hotel would be appreciated, thank you.
Maybe Viterbo?
When we took this tour a few years ago, also in May, we flew in to Rome from Boston and then took the train from the airport to Rome to Orvieto and stayed for 2 nights. We stayed at Casa Selita B&B which is in the RS Italy book and I would recommend. We're very fond of Orvieto. The South of Italy tour is a good one but aren't they all?
hey hey mary
so many places to check out, sent you a private message.
happy you get to get away and enjoy.

We stayed in the Aventine which is a quiet leafy area of Rome. It is a short walk from the Pyramide. We stayed at the Villa San Pio. This hotel has sister hotels in the area as well. We loved staying there. We ate at the restaurants nearby and were the only Americans there. It has been a while since we stayed there so maybe check the hotel reviews. There is a park nearby with lovely views of St. Peter’s.
