Pre RS tour itinerary

My wife and I have scratched together the following ideas for our 2 days in Rome prior to starting Heart of Italy tour:

Arrive FCO
LExpress to Termini
(Lunch ideas?)
Roman National Museum
Hotel check-in
Siesta
Borghese Museum
(dinner ideas?)

Day 2:
Early train to Ostia Antica
(Lunch ideas?)
Le Domus di Palazzo Valentini
(dinner ideas?)

Hoping to visit some churches along the way.
Any comments in general and specific to meal suggestions as noted?

Thank you.

Are you arriving from the U.S. on Day One? Two museums on jetlag might do you in. Try to plan some outdoor activities instead. Those two museums in one day would do me in even not jetlagged as they are complex and chock-a-block full of interesting exhibits. Be aware the Borghese last entrance is 17":00 and a reservation a week or more in advance is advisable. Le Domus di P. Valentini is also very popular and sells out the English tours very fast. It is a terrific site, so I hope you get to see it.

No decent lunch option in Ostia Antica, IMHO. You might want to make your way to the area near P. Valentini before you eat. English tours are at 13:30, 14:00 and 14:30.

Thanks for the comments, Laurel.
Have already made reservations to Borghese and Le Domus.

We went to Ostia Antica leaving Rome first thing in the morning. It easily took up the whole morning so we ate lunch at the cafeteria next to the museum. Reasonable.

I do not know how much time you have before your Le Domus reservation but St Paul's Outside the Walls is on your way back to Rome from Ostia Antica. We enjoyed our visit there.

You might want to try the Eating Italy tours for dinner on your second day. It goes through the Trastavere section (across the Tibur) you are outside walking around stopping in at various gelaterias bakeries, enotecas etc. The tour ends around 9 or 10 so it might help you get on Roman time.

Take into account that you really need to be at the Borghese at least 1/2 hour before your reservation time.

Jet lag might mean that these are days you want to take dinner closer to your hotel and then fall into bed.
