pre-purchasing of tickets to italian attractions

What sites in Venice, Florence, Rome and the Amalfi coast do we need to purchase before we go? Also, what websites are recommended for best price, short lines, and guarantee of purchase?

I agree with david--In Rome, pre-book the Borghese Gallery. In Florence, the Academia and Uffizi should be pre-booked. But we booking the Collosseum combination ticket worked well for us too.

I can not stress how important this is for the major attractions in Italy (more than i have seen in any other area). Follow Ricks book. We booked advanced ticket for David in Florence. We arrived and the line was incredibly long. We went to the front of the line (some what relucantly)and walked right in. In Florence we did the Florence Walking Tour for the Uffzi gallary. This was great. We are not big into art and they did an excellent job at pointing out things we would have never picked up on. Plus, no line. Again, in Rome for the sistine chapel, this was a little more work having to fax to them but well worth the effort back home. The line to get in was incredible, again we walked right up to the front of the line.
