Pre-purchased tickets in March for Rome

We will be visiting Rome this coming mid-March, 3/13-3/18 - it is a first visit here for the both of us. We are already planning on pre-purchasing early entry tix to the Sistine Chapel/Vatican Museum/St Peter's as well as the Colosseum/Roman Forum/Palatine Hill tours.

Just curious as to whether there are any other sites that it is recommended we purchase tickets beforehand this time of year? And as we will be there during off/shoulder season, anything we might need to be aware of (other than that we aren't visiting around Easter...…)

You can't see the Bernini sculptures at the Galleria Borghese without advance reservations. They go fast, there are only so many people admitted for each time period and everybody leaves and the next bunch goes in.

Even if you have "free" admission by buying an expensive combo card you can't just turn up - you have to make reservations by phone - even if you are overseas. They speak English.

Two others sights in Rome for which far-in-advance ticket arrangements may be required:

  • The Scavi tour at the Vatican.
  • The Domus Aurea.

What about the SCAVI tour. It is under, underneath St.Peter. You can read about it here if you search here or go to the Vatican's website.

Thanks for the reminder, Barbara!

I actually emailed the Excavation Office first thing this morning and they replied a couple of hours later with a reservation time and date that works for us - at 11am of the day we plan on our early entrance to the Vatican to see the Sistine Chapel!

Galleria Borghese now makes reservations for Roma Pass holders via email as well as by phone.

The Vatican and Sistine Chapel are magnificent, the Galleria Borghese is mind blowing, not to be missed and best with a tour guide. I made reservations last year well in advance.
