Pre-purchased Regional Tix

Hi,
We need to go from Lucca to Rome next month, and have already purchased our Frecce ticket from Pisa to Rome. We also purchased our regional ticket from Lucca to Pisa, but we are thinking we should not have purchased the regional train ticket because now we are bound to that time. Our train arrives in Pisa at 10:43 and then our Frecce train to Rome departs at 11:11, so I am panicking now about the short time to get on the platform for Frecce.

The ticket states that we can refund via Trenitalia, so any tips on how to if that can be done via the website? What should we do, should we pre-purchase again, but this time get an earlier ticket, because then it would be good for the next four hours? Or since trains run frequently, should we just purchaseat the Lucca train station on the day of?

Thanks,
Sam

Ticket states: Date/time change and Refund are possible by 23.59 hours of the day prior to departure, unless otherwise stated, at: Ticket Offices, Self-Services (not for refunds), Trenitalia APP,
www.trenitalia.com and issuing Travel Agencies.

Thanks,
Sam

Change it when you get there or buy another ticket they only cost 3 or 4 euros Lucca to Pisa. Nothing to worry about; and 28 minutes is enough time to make a connection when you are just going to another platform

You should have enough time to transfer, note that 15 minutes is the minimum time in huge, multi-level stations like Milano Centrale and Bologna. If the regionale from Lucca is late and you miss the connection you can get at the counter a new ticket to Rome for free.
With the 2 train codes you can check the intended arrival and departure tracks on RFI site.

any tips on how to if that can be done via the website?

First note down the code and the departure hour of the new train. Then Go here: https://www.trenitalia.com/it/informazioni/cerca_e_modificailbiglietto.html
Assuming you are not a registered user, check the 3rd radio button; Enter your Name (nome) Surname (cognome) and the CRA code you received via mail; click the red CERCA button and switch to the English version of the site.
Turn Google's auto-translate off when using trenitalia.com

Others have explained how to exchange your Lucca to Pisa regional train tickets, but to ease your panic let me elaborate on how easy it is to change trains at Pisa Centrale. Your regional train may have a display onboard that shows the track numbers for connecting trains. If not, get off and look for an overhead display along the arrival platform that will show the same information. There's a chance your 11:11 train will depart from the same platform. Otherwise, walk down the stairs to the underground passageway (or take the elevator - expect a line) and walk to your next platform. There are large displays along the passageway walls showing track numbers for departing trains in case you didn't see a display on the arrival platform, and there will also be a small display beside each stairway showing the number of the train departing next on that track. Walk up the stairs and wait for your train to arrive. The whole changing tracks process should take no more than 10 minutes, even if the arrival and departure tracks are at the furthest points apart. I hope this explanation helps you feel less stressed about your 28 minutes between trains.

Are you sure your 11:11 train from Pisa to Rome is a Freccia? Every day I checked in August, it's the direct Intercity train #505 that departs for Rome at 11:11. No worries, the process to change trains is the same and the Intercity is almost as fast as a Freccia.
