My husband and I will be doing a cruise in mid Sept. (11 days). We would like to do the Tuscany area before cruise and Amalfi Coast after. We would like to use our Marriott Rewards points at some locations. We could use two Marriott properties in Tuscan, Arezzo (southern) and Barga (north). We would rent a car in Tuscany to see as much of the Tuscany hill towns and country side. Can we drive easily enough from Barga to CT? I would like to do a day trip if possible. From Barga we could do Pisa and Lucca and small towns around Barga. Is it worth a three to four night stay there? Arezzo would be a three to four night stay as well. Would want to do Chianti areas for wineries, Siena, Cooking class and day in Florence. We would then take the train from Florence to Venice. Thinking of spending night before catching train in Florence. After we port in Civitavecchia we would like to do the Amalfi coast. The cruise stops for one day in Naples so thought it would best to do Pompeii then. Ok, now that I have stated my dream trip, what advice is out there for me. Like where to fly in and out, how long is long enough in areas I have listed and am I planning to much. After all we will be doing a cruise for 11 days too! Help! I welcome any suggestions on what cities to fly in and out of. What are our best options on ground transportation, best places to go, places to say, and best things to do. The cruise is the only plan set at this point.
