I am planning to pre-book a water taxi with Consorzio Motoscafi to take us from Marco Polo airport to our hotel later this month. We're arriving at 8:20 at night, and I figure the if I get the ticket in advance, that's one less thing to deal with when we get off the plane. Is this a mistake? And how soon after landing should I book the taxi -- how long will it take us to get clear passport and customs? We are flying in from the US with a connection in Munich.

Allow an hour from touchdown to exiting the terminal, plus ten minutes to walk to the dock.

When you book your water taxi, they will ask what time your flight is arriving. They will then know when to expect you at the meeting place.
