How difficult is descending and ascending from the well and about how long of a trip? Thanks.

I've done it several times but I am a marathoner and didn't find it difficult at all. About 250 steps. Temperature is cooler inside!

Whatever is the opposite of a marathoner, that is me. But I found the lower rise of the steps made them easy to walk up. There was no hand rail, and some steps are worn, uneven, or not quite flat, but lots of stone stairs are like that. Definitely an interesting thing to do in Orvieto and you do not have to go all the way down if you'd rather not.
