Power Converter for hair dryer and curling iron?

I will be traveling to Italy this Fall and have checked all my electrical appliances, and they all show that they will work with Italy's 240 watts, including my hair dryer and curling iron. We will be renting apartments, so no Italian appliances will be provided for us. Even if my hair dryer and curling iron state they are dual voltage, do I still need to buy a converter for them? I know I will need an adapter, but didn't think I would need a converter also. Thanks for your help.

If they are dual voltage you only need the adaptor. Check with your apartments (agency) before bringing the hair dryer. We just rented 2 apartments during our stay and both supplied hair dryers. One thing less to pack.

My wife has had trouble with dual voltage hair appliances, never work properly according to her. Buy one there.

Thanks, everyone for all your help. I did check on our apts. and they don't provide hair dryers, (you're right, one less thing to pack would have been nice),so I'll just take the adapter, and see what happens.

I have not had any trouble with my appliances working in Europe as long as they were dual voltage. They do not seem to work as well if you have to convert them. If yours are dual voltage you should be fine.

I gave up using my hair dryer in Italy. It is dual voltage - but this year I'll buy an Italian travel hair dryer if I see one. My dual voltage just doesn't seem to work there very well.

Both of our apartments in Italy (Venice and Rome) had very nice hair dryers. This is pretty standard, I think, as the above poster says. Well worth NOT schlepping one if you don't have to!

I'm using a dual voltage curling iron in Italy right now with no problem at all. Remember to bring several adapters if you'll also be charging a camera, using a laptop or whatever.

Definitely leave the curling iron! I'd leave the hair dryer too. Italian women seem to be more wash and wear. You'll feel like having a shower after walking around all day in the pollution/ humidity. Just let it air dry at night. You'll be gorgeous- and have to carry less.
