Post cards from rome to USA

Hello everyone-

I am staying near Campo de Fiori in Rome, and before I leave the city I want to send out several postcards to friends. If Italy is anything like here, Im sure I'll see postcards for sale all over the souvenir shops, but what is the best way to mail them?

We recently booked a week at an agriturisimo in Tuscany and they asked for a check for the first night to reserve the room. They received the check in one week. Buy stamps at tabac shops in Italy (it cost 85 or 90 cents to mail from here in the US). Look for box La Posta or something similar--very easy--you will have no problem finding one.

Best way with the highest chance of them arriving to the destination is to mail then from the Vatican post office. We sent about 5 from an Italian post office and 5 from the Vatican post office, all the Vatican mailed ones arrived, only 2 of the others. Now this could also be an issue with the US Mail, but that was our experience from 3 years ago.

Expect to arrive home before your cards! Seriously, the advice has always been to use the Vatican service but don't know whether that still holds true.

Any more information? Where is this vatican post office? Do they sell stamps?

Vatican Post Office has 2 locations on St. Peter's Square. The one to the right (behind screening machines, which you don't go through to get there) is the less busy of the two. The other location is in the long building to the left of St. Peter's. They do sell Vatican City stamps as well as post cards.

As you face St. Peter's, it's off to the left. Go to maps.google.com and copy and paste the following coordinates (41.901718, 12.456007). Switch on Satellite View and you'll see the entrance right there.
