We went to Italy over 6 weeks ago & mailed 5 post cards from Rome. The stamps were about 2.60 E and come with tracking. Every time I look one up it says"at processing center"... Anyone successfully mail cards from there?
We had some that have never showed up after 5 years. Did you use the private postal service or the official postal service? We found that shops would sell us the stamps for the private service, that wont work if you drop into a regular mailbox. The private service routes through Indonesia (I think) so maybe thats what processing center means.
Good to know! Thanks
I sent a couple of post cards two years ago, from the Post Office in Cortona, Italy. I know they both made it to their recipients in the USA, but can’t say exactly how long that took. It was probably no more than 2 weeks to be delivered.
Hola,
My friend who lives in Bucharest receives less than 50% of the postal mail I send her. I've elected not to continue with that madness. My Mexico City friend reports that he has never received a single postal item I have sent him,,,another poor postal experience.
I discussed this "issue" with my local postal worker, who told me she had a friend in Rome who also suffers from poor postal delivery from the U.S.A.
Her solution was to put a small "Jesus sticker" on the front of each posted correspondence. The result - greatly improved delivery. Not certain if this plays into the hand of Christian Italian postal workers or an example of devine intervention.
We have had bad results. Some never arrived. One took 2 months. One 4 months. But if you don’t mind friends and family getting a postcard months after you return you might want to take a chance.
When I first traveled to Europe, I didn't realize that for postcards to get back to the U.S., you have to say "international stamp, to U.S." My recent postcards from Italy all made it to their recipients. I encountered the orange stamps on my past trip. Not a fan. I don't write my postcards at the shop, and then had difficulty finding orange mail boxes.
Postcards to my nephews and to myself and it generally takes weeks, weeks!
