Hi, I'm quite tempted by Lazise in late June, but worried that scenery-wise it will feel a little underwhelming after Malcesine - our happy choice a couple of years ago. We thought Malcesine was an amazing find that had the views, the cable car, the historic cobbled charm, the eateries and the atmosphere, but the 'beaches' were not so sandy. Visited both Limone and Sirmione and loved their look and feel, but perhaps too small and too crowded/flat respectively for a 10-day stay.
We want to return to Lake Garda ideally because of its colour and charm, and because it's warmer than all others lakes n June, but would like a smoother experience getting into the water if possible (slightly reduced mobility).
We've done lots of research and although people rave about Lazise, Garda town and Bardolino and say they have slightly sandier beach options, I fear that Malcesine's breathtaking scenery will be really hard to beat (but we do want to try somewhere different each year).
Can anyone convince me otherwise? Coming from Paris by train so I know the Southern lake towne are easier for that and for popping to Verona, which does appeal. Feel so torn that part of me is wondering whether to give up trying to beat Malcesine and explore the coastal towns of the riviera south of Genoa instead e.g. Levanto or Bonassolo or Sestri Levante. I've already started a different thread about that area specifically...but it's very relevant to mention it here too.
Just on that part while I'm here: If anyone has been to both regions (the Lakes and the riviera) and can add input on these preferences above, I'd be really grateful!
Not seeking family/children vibes - more seeking romantic anniversary vibes, great evening atmosphere for waterside dining and great self catering apartments with stunning, interesting water views (which we achieved with Malcesine and on other lakes in Ascona and Menaggio).
Happy to do lots more research but I find these forums in particular very helpful when people have spent June/July time in several of these places and can offer insight and perspective on pros and cons.
Thanks so much! (50s couple into gentle walks and boat trips/day trips to other colourful , really scenic towns. )
For important context, we adore the drama of Swiss sceney e.g. Brienz and Lucerne but the unreliable weather in late June/early July will probably stop us returning there as prefer 25+ degrees for most of the holiday...
This may all sound ambitious(!), but in my experience these forums are incredibly useful for perspective and factual detail based on specific preferences in a way that official guides can't offer.
