possible to get a visa for 95 days Italy?

I have a roundtrip ticket for April 2009 for a 89 day stay, in Arezzo near Florence. Upon arrival I would like to change my ticket to return 8 days later, bringing my stay up to 97 days. How and can, I get a visa to extend my non visa stay of 90 days. I am flying from USA. I will be taking a lanuage course for three months and then would like to go to Rome to joing my cousins to travel for a week. Thanks for your help, Cubarbara P.S. The reason I want to change my ticket upon arrival n Florence is because it would cost $200 more to change it now and here in the States.

Thanks Frank, I read that site info and I am still confused. I think I will just call my Italian Consulate tomorrow. Maybe I can use the Family reunion for a visa. I am joining my cousins from the States in Rome and was planning on going to Aburzzi to visit our relatives there.

Because you are doing a language course, I would look into a student visa. Alternatively, if you have enough finances + proof of insurance, you could possibly convince the Italian government to grant a longer tourist visa. Checking with the consulate is the best course of action, as they're the ones who ultimately get to decide.
