Hi
Has anyone stayed in Positano with teenagers? We have booked a place to stay there for 3 days but have since been told that there isnt much for teenagers to do (14, 13 & 10 yo) and they would get bored. Is this correct or can you recommend some things to do. We are going to rent a boat for one day and cruise the coast. We are arriving there after 4 days in Rome so a relax might be good.
What time of year?
We are getting there the beginning of July 2018
Maybe let them explore on their own but stay in contact so you know where they are, and the adults can have some time together.
I found several online references to a market in Maiori on Friday mornings, but cannot be sure it will continue during July 2018.
There are lots of walking trails in the area. And here's a 2013 article from the Washington Post. Googling will turn up many additional links.
And of course there are beaches. You should understand, though, that while European beaches are often extremely picturesque, the most accessible ones tend to be far more crowded than US beaches, and many are very rocky. You may need water shoes.
Pompeii and Herculaneum are within day-trip distance. There may well be bus tours to one or both of them that would work if you won't have a car.
A good guide book should provide information on other local attractions.
Thank you for your help and suggestions.
With only 3 days and after the intensity of Rome I would have thought that it would be a perfect amount of time for just relaxing around the beaches. I don't think they'd get bored in just 3 days.
I'm also guessing that your three days includes the day you transfer from Rome? If so, realistically you'll have 2.5 days after all is said and done. "Relax" isn't a term in a lot of teenagers' vocabularies so you might want too just turn them loose (but not with your credit cards) while you hang out, or send them to the beach. There isn't much to do other than shopping, hiking, the beach and ferries to other locations around the coast. Capri will be a zoo but there's some fun hiking around the island: I'd take the first ferry out.
If you do Pompeii it'll be very hot in July so I'd arrange to get there as early as possible in the morning so you can be out before the warmest part of the day.
