We have a car in an upcoming trip that includes Amalfi coast. Staying in Positano. We have drivien into town and parked in a lot before ( believe it or not) but this time considering parking in Salerno or Sorrento and using SITA bus into town to Sponda stop. Any advice where to park in either of those two places? Train station? Am I remembering correctly that SITA bus leaves from train station?

There a several pay parking lots in Positano.
They aren't cheap (about 20€ a day), but it beats leaving the car in a far away place where you can't use it. What's the purpose of renting a car if you can't use it? A rental car driven to Positano will make it easier for you to reach (and depart from) your hotel with your luggage, even if you end up not using it much for driving around the coast. Besides it's already the end of the season. Unless you go there on a sunny weekend of September, the traffic and the parking is not bad from now on.
