I have read the previous posts related to the travel between Positano and Siena, but does anyone have any updated suggestions. I will be traveling in July 2014 and would appreciate any input.
jeff,
The easiest solution by public transit......
- Bus from Positano to Sorrento
- Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Naples
- Freccia from Naples to Siena (possibly with changes at Roma Termini and Firenze SMN)
Another possible route would be Bus from Positano to Salerno and then train to Siena. From Florence you could also travel by Bus to Siena, as it's only about an hour.
Ken's summary has you on the right track. That route has not changed much in the past few years, except for the Freccia trains getting faster, and more direct train service competing with the bus between Florence and Siena. Naples-Florence-Siena train travel time is 4.5 hours or Salerno-Florence-Siena train time is 5.5 hours.
