We'll be staying in Positano for several nights. We're trying to figure out the best way to get to Pompeii, and then maybe on to Vesuvius. I know there are good train connections in Naples or Sorrento, but can't find out about Positano. Any thoughts on the best way to get to Pompeii/Vesuvius?

From Positano, you can just take the SITA bus to Sorrento and take the train from there (there are no direct connections by train or bus from Positano)

There is a bus from Positano to Sorrento,about 1 hour,then take the Circumvesuviano to Pompeii(less than 1 hour).There are no trains in Positano.There are ferrys from positano to Naples,but then you still have to get the Circumvesuviano to pompeii.BE WARNED-the circumvesuviano is cheap,but not comfortable,hot and SKANKY! Watch your belongings,and you will be OK.
