Positano to Pompeii to Rome in June

Hello:

My family of 4 is traveling in June from Positano to Rome, and we would like to stop at Pompeii on the way. It will be three adults (one of whom is wearing a boot due to a fractured ankle) and a 12 year old. We would like to be able to spend at least 4 hours at Pompeii and I am concerned that we won't be able to get a ferry to Sorrento early enough in the morning. How easy is catching the bus? How easy is transferring from the bus to the train? Can anyone help me find the total cost of traveling by bus/ferry, then train? I am having a difficult time finding bus and ferry schedules.

Thank you so much for any advice.

I've been looking for ferry schedules Positano and Sorrento myself and eventually read on TripAdvisor that the ferries aren't currently running, and possibly won't be for a while, since some WWII munitions were found off the coast. Which would explain why ferry schedules have not been posted by any of the ferry companies (Coop. Sant' Andrea or Alilauro). Although, they might be running when you visit so you can check those sites.

The 5070 SITA bus runs from Positano to Sorrento. You can find schedules at http://www.sitasudtrasporti.it/. The route's schedule is posted here. The bus ends in front of the train station in Sorrento so it would be easy to transfer to the Circumvesuviana, which would take you to Pompeii.

There is a short flight of steps to get to the train station, then an elevator off to one side. When you get to the Circumvesuviana station below Napoli Centrale, I think it's only stairs to get to the ,ain't station.

This is the Circumvesuvian timetable. http://www.eavsrl.it/web/sites/default/files/orariautomobilisti/Orario%20Sorrento_Napoli.pdf.

The stop you want is Pompeii V. Mestre. Cost... E2,20

Pompeii-Napoli Cost... E2,60

Sita bus ticket Positano-Sorrento...E2,20. Good 8o min. Note it will take an hour to travel by bus.

So total cost is E7,00

An option is to look at the http://www.campaniartecard.it/

The one you would want is the 3 day tutta la regione. This includes all transportation

and 2 free sites. You have to do the math to see if this works out for you.

Have a wonderful time.

I just returned form Sorrento/Pompeii etc yesterday.

Boats are running out of Sorrento and Napoli, I cannot vouch for Positano.

Train from Rome to Naples, be sure to get the fast train, it save 3 hours. Note: stairs at all train stations, look for the lifts.
If you take the train, be sure to check and double check that you are on the Train to Pompeii Scavi, (follow Ricks directions) transfer to the local trains, buy new (cheap) tickets. (I did not, and I got on a train going around Pompeii Scavi, if you do, be sure to keep going then return, do NOT return to Naples to start over, oops...)

Pompeii is wonderful, lots of walking and then some, my knee is letting me know, but it was worth it. Be prepared to go slow and maybe not see it all or split up and meet back at start.

I followed the afternoon by taking the train to Sorrento, (don't go there unless you can stay a night or two it is wonderful).

Not sure how to get to Positano from Pompeii. I took a small group Mondo tour recommended by Rick and it was wonderful!
