Positano to Naples via Ferry or via Taxi?

Hi Everyone
Is there a ferry that runs directly from Positano to Naples in June? I need to leave Positano on June 17 to go to Naples. If a direct ferry is available:
- how long does it take to get to Naples,
-how much does it cost and
-how often does in run each day?

My other options is to hire a taxi . I’m told this will be approximately $160 and take 2 hours . Does that sound correct?

Thanks!

Yes, staying in Positano is physically very different from staying in the less gorgeous Sorrento. It also attracts many high-end customers, keeping prices higher. But it is a very long trip by car, subject to highway and tunnel traffic. It is normally risky or impossible to wake up in Positano and fly home that day. It can be done from Naples (not from Rome), with careful planning, and buffer time allowance. The high fare covers both the long distance, and the likely "empty return" by the driver.

The Naples seaport is not particularly close to the airport, or walkable to the train, but both are fixed-rate taxi fares in Naples.

You may get better answers if you provide more information about your overall plans and needs. For example, we can't tell if you are meeting a Frecciarossa (fast) train to Rome. Discount tickets on that train are not changeable if you miss your train, or arrive early. That's all I mean by "more information."

We will be Travelling from Positano to Naples on June 17 , staying overnight in Naples and then flying out of Naples to the USA on June 18th. I was hoping to possibly take a boat from
Positano to Naples on the afternoon of June 17 with arrival in Naples by 6 or 7pm. However I wasn’t sure how much the boat ride would cost for 4 adults with 4 carry on backpacks or how long it would take to get to Naples from Positano.

We are NOT flying out of Rome. I made a mistake in my original post title by stating we were going from Positano to Rome . I corrected it as soon as I saw it . I think that caused confusion- my apologies.

Hope that helps clarify things. Any advice you can provide is appreciated!

Hi Maryanne,

I'm currently looking at the same options for May of next year--planning to travel from Positano to Naples late in the day before our flight of Naples the next day. What did you end up doing? Any recommendation of ferry versus car service? How late does the ferry run? We will have luggage, as our trip includes a wedding.

Thanks,
Linda

It's worth mentioning that another option is a taxi or car service to the Sorrento port, where, generally, larger ferries go to Naples. I suspect that service is more often than in smaller Positano, and where the boats themselves have to be physically smaller. I don't recommend taking the SITA public bus (to Sorrento) because it will be so crowded, especially at the end of the day.

I don't see either taxi or ferry as being a risky choice in June. But if you are in Sorrento and the ferry is cancelled, you would still have the option of taking the (hot, crowded, gritty) Circumvesuviana train to Naples. OTOH, if you want to transfer at the very end of the day, ferries and the Circumvesuviana may stop running earlier in the evening/afternoon.

Another issue is how far your room in Positano is from taxi or ferry access. I only mean that there can be hundreds of stair steps to negotiate to some parts of Positano. Likewise, where is your Naples hotel in relation to ferry port? A 25 Euro (made that up) flat-rate taxi fee in Naples might sway your car service decision a bit.
