Positano to Milan. Last stop advice!

We will be traveling Italy in May and looking for advice on the last leg of our trip. We will be checking out of Positano on 5/25 and fly out of Milan on 5/29 early morning back home.

We would explore Milan on the 28th and stay the night there for easy access to the airport.

Is it worth trying to squeeze any other location in during transit from Positano to Milan? (25-28) Stopping in Venice would be cool but don't know if it's to ambitious.

Prior to Positano we would have visited:

  • Cinque Terre

  • Florence

  • Rome

We realize that train ride is long in of itself so not sure if it's better to just settle down in Milan and use that as our base for the last few days and maybe day trip to Lake Como.

Thank you in advanced

If you really want to go to Venice it is doable
We took fast train from Salerno to Venice at end of our Amalfi stay
Ferry to Salerno then the train took about 6 hours
Ferry dock is just 10 min walk to station
We took a picnic on the train and it was actually a nice rest day for us

You do have 3 nights to fill
You won’t get to Venice til late afternoon but then 2 full days in Venice works
Train to Milan to Venice us fairly quick 2.5 hours
Get going early and you’re in Milan for lunch

It would take you longer to get to Como from Positano than it would to get to Venice

I would suggest got to Lake Como on the 25th and transfer to Milan on the 28th to be positioned for your departure flight.

If you have a specific plan for Milan you could go there a day earlier; 2 nights at Lake Como gives you the afternoon of the 25th and all day the 26th to wander among the towns ( Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio) via ferry.

Thanks for the replies!

It's exciting to hear that we can probably fit one more place in. I'll do some more research on the 2 and see what fits us the best.

Do you guys have a preference as far as Lake Como vs Venice? I imagine they are quite different so might be hard to compare.

Haven’t been to Lake Como but love Venice
Venice is unique, no other place like it

Bingo

Which is better, angel food cake or sharp cheddar cheese?

As far as covid testing to return to the US can this be done in Bellagio/Varenna? Or would it be better to do in Milan? If it's in Milan, are results same day?

Test must be done ONE DAY before departure
So if you depart on 5/29 test anytime on 5/28

Most pharmacies offer rapid test with results in 15-30 min
Some require an appointment
Cost about 22 euros

With luck the test requirement might be lifted by then
That’s what a lot of us are hoping for

You can also do the online proctored self test Abbott BinaxNow
Lots of info on forum about that
Do a search
