Positano to Florence question

Hi guys,

We're going to be in Italy in a few weeks with 5 nights in positano followed by 4 nights in florence. My plan was to take the ferry to Salerno and then take the train to florence. My question is this: should I take the morning boat after our 5th night to salerno to catch a ~noon train to florence? Or should I go the night before to salerno, stay overnight, and take the first train to Florence?

Thanks!

On my test date, the most attractive times for direct Salerno-Florence trains are about 9:10, 13:10, and 15:10. There are also earlier and later direct trains, but the one closest to noon is one of those with a connection in Naples. I would not bother moving to a Salerno hotel for one night, unless you have a firm deadline in Florence. So a morning scenic ferry and lunchtime train ride sound good to me. You can bring your own packed lunch onto the train. See ferry schedules at http://www.positano.com/en/ferry-schedule?from=positano&to=salerno.

There is also a direct high speed train run by italotreno.it/en that leaves from Salerno at 11:58.
