We'll be staying in Positano and want to take a day trip to Capri. Any suggestions on the quickest source to get there (where closest to get boat/ferry from Positano) and "must sees" on Capri?
carol, It's very easy to get from Positano to Capri. Boats depart on a regular basis from the dock area along the waterfront (they usually back into the concrete dock). You can buy tickets at the small booths in that area. As I recall, the trip is about an hour. Be sure to note the time of the last boat back to Positano! If you want to see the boats arriving and departing, have a look at This Website which shows a "live" view of the dock area. When you arrive at Marina Grande, there's a ticket booth to the right where you can buy a ticket for the Funicular up to town. The entrance to the Funicular is across the street from the ticket booth. If you have a generous budget, you could also take one of the open-top Taxis (there will probably be a few waiting when the boat arrives). Many feel that the Blue Grotto is a "must see" on Capri, but that's probably a matter of opinion. You could also take the short trip to Anacapri (details on that and other options in Capri are in the Guidebook). I quite enjoyed browsing through some of the "ritzy" stores (not that I could afford to actually buy anything). One tip though - if you're planning to use the last boat back to Positano, the Funicular may be packed! This is an occasion where a relaxing ride to the dock in a Taxi is the best idea. Happy travels!
I'll just add one tip to Ken's excellent advice: if you plan to visit the Blue Grotto, bring some 'seasick' pills on your trip. The water can be choppy, and I've seen more than one visitor hanging over the side of their boat.
