Positano/Sorrento to Naples ferry?

Does anyone know a website that has the ferry schedule from Sorrento or Positano to Naples in English - I've found a few websites, but they're all in Italian!

I'm going in May and wondering what times the ferry runs between Positatno/Sorrento and Naples.

Also, I'm wondering if this is something I need to book ahead of time or if I can get tickets the day of.
Thanks!!

You can buy your tickets at the ferry dock the day you travel. They run quite often. We arrived from Palermo at 7AM and got a ferry to Sorrento at 8AM...I believe they run every 1/2 to 1 hour. Ferry to Naples probably runs on about the same schedule.

If you are staying in Sorrento, you can check the day before you want to leave to Naples...just go to the dock and ask.

They don't fill up....you don't need a reservation. NOt in May anyway!

You didn't mention Capri. I hope you plan to visit this island for at least part of one day. If it is calm, the side trip to the Grotto is fun. (from Capri)

A few years ago, I tried to figure out how to do what you want to do, but was unable to decode which ferries I needed (before getting to Italy). BUT, when we got to Positano, we found the schedules we needed in some of the bars- and we took a ferry from Positano to Sorrento, another from Sorrento to Naples, and then a third from Naples to Procida; you can generally get the tickets the day you go.

www.metrodelmare.com - there is an option to have the web page in english. We are going to Positano in early May and I looked into the ferry and was told that during that time of year they are very infrequent (maybe twice a day to/from Naples).

There are a lot of ferry companies that operate within the Bay of Naples and down the Amalfi Coast. I, too, have become a little frustrated with trying to discern who covers which route. Try the website www.campaniatrasporti.it - ACAM. I found that it lists 7 ferry/hydrofoil companies; some of these companies are also in a consortium so you'll see them listed on their own site and this group site, as well.

You can make do with limited Italian, if you know the Italian names of your departure and arrival points, and a few key words like orari.

I have checked deeply. We travel naples to positano May 19. I am told ferries are infrequent. In a day or two I will fax to hotel and ask and will report back. Also, We must travel through Naples a few days before and I may stop for a short time there to check out schedules. Randy, Milwaukee

I just returned from Positano. Take the local train from Naples to Sorrento. One leaves several times an hour. Once in Sorrento, you can get a bus to Positano at the train station. The train takes a long time and the bus ride is scary!!! Be prepared.
