Looking for hotel recommendations and itinerary advice and are open to change our tentative itinerary based on recommendations. Arriving Naples on September 30th then planning on taking car service to Pompeii then drop off at a Positano hotel. Staying 2 nights in Positano (investigate Positano - any tips or suggestions?) Take car service to Sorrento on October 2nd (before heading to Sorrento, we can have the car service take us to Amalfi and Ravello if we haven’t seen them – any tips?) Possibly take a ferry to Capri while in Sorrento. Looking for hotel recommendations with great sea views that are centrally located in both Positano and Sorrento, and not too expensive (preferably under 300€ per night). We’re open to change the number of nights at either location (ie: - should we just stay in one location?) depending on advice as well. Also looking for restaurant suggestions. We've never been to the Amalfi Coast and our main goal is to just take in the beautify scenery and indulge in tasty Italian food and wine! Thanks so much for your help!
Are you aware of the bus and ferry service available to you while in Positano and Sorrento?
You can take a ferry from Positano to Amalfi- then bus to Ravello (or cab for about 35€)

ChristineH - I knew that there was a ferry that went between Positano and Sorrento, but I wasn't aware that it went to Capri and Amalfi. Thanks for that information! Do you think it's better to just stay in Positano for the four nights?
I'm not really the one to answer that question as we have not been yet! We will be there next month.
We decided to stay in Sorrento for 4 nights- we will visit Pompeii and Capri from Sorrento. And probably Naples as well.
Then we are moving to Amalfi for 3 nights- will see Positano, Ravello from there.
Then we go to Salerno for 2 nights- to visit Paestum and catch train to Venice.
We chose Amalfi because it was a bit less expensive, and I was able to find lodgings that didn't require climbing up and down a hundred steps! Amalfi is also a transportation hub- just makes more sense for us. Positano strikes me as very touristy, lots of high end shopping etc not really our thing. I am sure it is gorgeous but we'll probably just spend 1/2 day or so there.
This is our 40th anniversary trip so we splurged a bit on hotels- if you book early you can certainly keep it under 300€ /night
Sorrento- chose this hotel for the views and location

Amalfi- chose this for the location- it is on the sea level near bus/ferry-

I start my search on booking.com then often, but not always- book thru the hotel website. And I book early- 6-8 months out.
We also splurged on a driver from Naples train station to Sorrento, then Sorrento to Amalfi- although we originally planned to just use bus/train. We'll take ferry to Salerno.

Happy Anniversary Christine! Thanks for sharing that information. I will definitely look into the links that you shared. I actually checked out Grand Hotel Del La Ville in Sorrento, but saw that it was 1496 Euros for four nights (374 per night), so we were still looking. Did you get your room for less when you booked?
Yikes!
We have 4 nights end of May for 1030€.
Might be too early. Maybe just keep an eye on it and see if you can't catch a deal. We actually did not book the Grand Hotel de la Ville originally- just grabbed that rate 3/25- so 60 days out. It is a non-refundable rate. We had a diff hotel booked up til then (cancelable), just changed our minds when we went crazy with the splurge!
When we first started planning last May? I checked rates for our favorite hotel in Rome. The rate was outrageous, we were disappointed as we liked it so much. Anyway- I booked an alternate-cancelable- then just waited, kept checking at our favorite and scored in August. 180€/night. 9 months out. That same room is now 300€.
Be very sure of your itinerary before you book non-refundable lodgings.
Do you have just 4 nights total?
Yes, four nights in the Amalfi area. We’re staying in Rome from September 27th – 30th. We'll be in the Amalfi area from the 30th to October 4th then spending a night in Naples on the 5th before flying to Barcelona for a couple of nights. I just booked a "cancellable" hotel in Positano called Villa Yiara (560 Euro for 2 nights/280 per night). It got really good reviews on Trip Advisor. We're thinking of booking the Grand Hotel Aminta (363 Euro a night) - we're just waiting to hear back to confirm that it's free cancellation. It's a bit higher than we wanted to spend, but we can keep checking prices like you suggested to see if we find something more reasonable.
It has been a little more than a year but we loved Villa La Tartania in Positano and i think it was about 300 euro a night includes great breakfast
Barcelona is a nice add on.
Given your full itinerary I'd stay all 4 nights in Positano. That's really just 3.5 days. Don't lose time changing hotels, you can get to all the Amalfi sights from Positano.
3 Rome
4 Positano
1 Naples
3? Barcelona
Sounds nice
