Does anyone know the right parking for a day in Positano during May. I want to be able to during morning visit Nochelle above Positano by foot and to spend afternoon at beach and visit the shops of the town. Is there a best parking situation for this. If the parking is at top of Positano, is there local bus to get back up at end of day. Thank you, Frank
There is no right or wrong parking. There is the parking that is full and the one that may have some stalls still available. There are several spots where you can park. Some are along the road. They are marked by blue stripes and you have to pay at the meter. Others are private lots (small lots). They are attended (custodito) and you have to pay the attendant (leave a tip also, you are near Naples and you want to make sure they keep an eye on the car, the bigger the tip, the better the attention they pay to your car). Just drive around till you find one with a free spot. In May I haven't had a problem finding one, but I always avoid weekends there, because it's too crowded with Napoletani who take up all the parking.
We always park our car in the parking garage right before the AGIP gas pump (it's on the left as you go down into the town). You don't need a bus because Positano isn't dramatically large. My preschoolers and I go up and down the shopping district maybe 3 or 4 times in about 3 hours hitting up the shops and making stops for gelato and pastries. The beach isn't the most relaxing (rock, they are smooth but they are rocks) so I'm not sure how much time you would spend there. Anyway, we use the parking garage, I believe its 24E/day or 7E/hr. They take your car and put it somewhere then pull it out. There is a bathroom there as well. If you head down, you'll see a few shops on your left but go past them until you see that the shops are getting closer (right after the garage, if you are driving slow enough, you will see the clothing shop and a shoe shop right next to it (you migh have to pass the garage to see the shoe shop). I hope that's helpful in someway. I perfer the garage just because then no one will accidentally hit it and I wont get yelled at for parking too far into the street and I don't have to worry about the kids getting out on the cliff side :)
