Positano or Praiano

Hi
I am not too familiar with the Amalfi Coast. What area is the best to stay in? We are looking for views, beach, pool and a relaxing stay. (2 adults and 2 boys 10 and 12) we want to do day trip to Pompeii and to Capri.
I like Hotel Margherita but would like more suggestions. Thank you!

I prefer Sorrento. Great ferry connections & easy for Pompeii. Fun town. We've stayed at Hotel Minerva (2004)& Settimo Cierlo (2008)(spelling- ck Rick's book- very affordable). Minerva's pool is better but other nice & easier to get a balcony. Both have amazing views. In Capri(2004) we used a local with a 18 foot boat to circle the island, visit smaller grottos and stop & swim- very great day. In Positano my husband got horribly bitten by a huge jellyfish plus the sea water is not that clean so I'd definitely want a pool.

Positano is more touristy and more expensive than Priano. Day trips to Pompeii and Capri would be much easier from Sorrento. However, if you want a relaxing stay at the beach with great views Positano is probably the place to stay. The beach is nice and reaxing - was not bitten by jellyfish there but was in the CT (Manarola) - no big deal, have been bitten before scuba diving off of Cozumel.

We just returned from an 18 day trip to Italy including 7 nights in Praiano. The Hotel Margherita was very close to the apartment we rented. I loved Praiano. Much quieter than Positano and local buses can take you anywhere. We also did a day trip to Pompeii (SITA bus & train) and boat to Capri. We rented the boat at the Marina Praia to Capri. Much easier than getting to Positano for the boat.
