I'm planning a trip to Rome the week between Christmas and New Year's day. We are considering a couple of days in Positano, see Pompeii, explore the area. What is the weather that time of year? Is Positano vacant after the tourist season?

I've never been in Positano in December, but suspect it will be VERY quiet, possibly with some Hotels closed.
Staying in Sorrento would be a better choice for visiting Pompeii. It's also a larger city, so will probably have a greater range of accommodations available at that time.
