Positano Hotels

Need some insight from a few seasoned RS posters. My wife and I are honeymooning in Positano for a few nights. We are booked for two nights at Hotel Marincanto (confirmed with views!). We are considering staying two more nights in any of the following below. I'm getting dizzy reading all the tripadvisor reviews and have enjoyed reading some of the posts on here.

Also, what is the best route via boat to reach Positano? (Salerno>Positano, Naples>Positano, other)

Prefer somewhere romantic with sea & town views (if possible). We're younger and pack fairly light, so steps aren't an issue.

Currently looking at:
Hotel Savoia
Hotel Poseidon
Hotel Miramare

Theo,

First of all, congratulations!

Regarding hotels, I've only stayed in Hotel Savoia and would absolutely recommend them. I don't have any comments on the other two. However, be sure that you specify one of the deluxe double rooms on the front so that you have a view. Some rooms face the garden at the back, so probably not desirable for a honeymoon.

In order to suggest "the best route", it would help to know where you're coming from? Is it important to travel by boat, or would other transportation suffice?

I have also stayed at the Savoia and LOVE it. I would definitelyl recommend it and found it very easy to walk all around Positano, the beach and took the local bus down to Amalfi.

@Ken - We will be traveling from Florence by train. I thought it might be more scenic and hopefully a little less crowded to take a boat into town rather than SITA.

Theo,

I'm sure the boat would be a pleasant experience, but probably wouldn't be my choice with luggage. As you're travelling from Florence, getting there as quickly as possible would be my preference so that you can start enjoying Positano as soon as possible. For example, if you travel Naples-Positano, you'll travel by train to Napoli Centrale and then have to take a Taxi or whatever to Molo Beverello (docks) to connect with the boat.

Another method you could consider.....

  • High speed train from Firenze SMN to Napoli Centrale. You can use either Freccia trains (Trenitalia) or Italo trains.
  • From Naples: Option (1) - Take Circumvesuviana to Sorrento (it's a commuter train, so not fancy but it will get you there) or Option (2) - hire a driver for the trip from Sorrento to Positano (Raffaele Monetti is highly rated -details in the Guidebook).
  • If you decide to take the Circumvesuviana from Naples to Sorrento, you can reach Positano by: Option (1) - take the Bus OR Option (2) - take a Taxi OR Option (3) hire a private driver for that portion of the trip (nothing like arriving at your hotel in a chauffeur driven Mercedes on your honeymoon).

Which option to choose will depend on your budget and how quickly you want to start enjoying Positano.

Buon Viaggio!

Hello!
I was just in Positano 5 days ago! It's a very beautiful place! We stayed at La Tavolozza which is a family run place, it was an amazing choice with beach views! They also delivered breakfast to our balcony, everyone who worked there was extremely nice and very helpful! We even forgot beach towels and they have us some for our stay for free! It was a quite and private place! For transportation we had them arrange a taxi for us from Positano to Naples €100, we didn't have to worry about train or boat transfers and carrying our luggage around, it will more likely be cheaper from Salerno, also Salerno has a bus that brings you to Positano for about €13 they have busses running every 30 minutes which pick you up from right infront of the train station !
