Positano Hotel

My fiancee and I will be in Italy for two weeks for our honeymoon and on the Amalfi Coast from October 4-9, 2016 at the end of our trip. We have decided to stay in Positano and are tentatively booked in a sea view room at Hotel Il Gabbiano; does anyone have experience there?

Barring il Gabbiano, do you have any favorite Positano hotel recommendations? While I like the Hotel Savoia (a favorite recommendation on the RS boards from what I can tell) it is out of our budget.

I have a maximum price point of about €800-€900 for the hotel for five nights in Positano, with a sea view a must. I recognize this will likely put us at a 3 star hotel, which is fine for us. We've scoured TripAdvisor already, so any personal recommendations from RS people would be wonderful. I appreciate your help!

Joe,

Unfortunately, I was going to recommend Hotel Savoie as that's where I stayed. You might be able to get a slightly less expensive room by booking a room at the back that overlooks the garden. While that's not as romantic as a sea view for a honeymoon, sometimes that's a more practical option.

Good luck!

Thanks Ken, I read your recommendations for the Sovoia on other postings and really liked the hotel online and from other reviews. Unfortunately (fortunately for other visitors?) it looks like there are only sea view rooms remaining for the dates in question.

Edit: 5:46 PM EST, We are booked into a Superior Sea View Room at Hotel La Bougainville (Via C. Colombo, 25) and it is within our budget range. It appears to be either right next door or just a few doors down from the Hotel Savoia. It gets great reviews for the price point on TripAdvisor and the review for the room type for couples gets very high marks, so hopefully things work out well!

Hotel La Bougainville looks like a good match for you.
The location is excellent, being right in town and half way up the hill.
You will need to be at the top of the hill for things and at the bottom for others so being in the middle works quite well.

I imagine the rooms are not luxurious but honestly in Positano you only need the room/hotel to have a sea view and you will be out walking the town and sea and only use the room for the bed/sleep.
I would rather stay in town at a less fancy place than a mile down the road at a much fancier place.

We stayed at the top of the hill at Eden Roc but there prices have increased significantly recently and though we loved it there for the views being in the middle of the hill is more convenient for getting about.

I stayed at Hotel II Gabbiano last year and loved it. My son spent his honeymoon just across the street and down at the Hotel Pasitea and loved it. The breakfast at Gabbiano was adequate nothing special but I really liked my room and the incredible view. Price was within my budget and I was traveling solo. I enjoyed the walks down to the beach daily. Positano is must see, must do for honeymoon....it was quite lovely.

Thanks for the replies - at our price point Hotel La Bougainville appears to be a great hotel. It probably won't be luxurious by many standards, but we should have a great view and will be accessible to all points in Positano.
