Positano Hotel

We will be traveling to Positano for the last leg of our October honeymoon. I'm having a really hard time deciding on a hotel in Positano. Le Sirenuse and Il San Pietro are a little out of our price range. Can anyone recommend a romantic, semi-reasonably priced hotel in Positano? Rick recommends the Hotel Marincanto in his 2008 book. However, I've read some negative posts on tripadvisor. Has anyone else traveled to Positano for their honeymoon? Any hotel suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Liz - We stayed at the Hotel Villa Rosa (check Tripadvisor) which is across the street from the Le Sirenuse. Although we weren't there for a honeymoon - it was a girls trip - I would return if I was honeymooning in Positano! The hotel staff were wonderful, breakfast was served on the terrace of our room with an incredible view and they even let us drop off our luggage early so we could spend a couple of days driving down the coast to Paestum without having to deal with our suitcases. One evening we went across the street and had cocktails at the rooftop bar of Le Sirenuse.

Liz, first of all, congratulations!

Regarding the Hotel, you might consider This Hotel for your stay in Positano. I was there this spring and really enjoyed my stay there. The staff were wonderful and the decor of the hotel was beautiful (the floor tiles in the front lobby are worth a photo!). It's an easy walk from the Hotel to the beach or whatever (it's actually closer to the beach than Le Sirenuse).

Good luck and happy travels!

Yes, congratulations are in order!!

I am not sure if you have been to Positano, but my husband and I were on the Amalfi coast last month and we found Positano a little too touristy for us. I know many people love it and it is definitely beautiful, but we found Ravello more suited to our personality. Ravello is more quiet and peaceful, full of lemon and lime trees, olive trees, hiking and all around a more relaxed setting. Again these was our tastes, but it was much more conducive to decompressing from a high stress life and creating romance. We hiked everywhere that we went and enjoyed the breathtaking views, since Ravello is not down on the water. We stayed here: puntacivita.it and I cannot recommend it enough. Roberto and his family run the place and they make you feel so welcome. The reviews on trip advisor are true. It is located just below Ravello, so you have many options. Atrani is a 15 minute walk, Amalfi a 20 minute walk. From Amalfi you can catch a boat to Positano, Capri, Sorrento, etc. Maiori and Minori are closer to Ravello and have better beaches than Positano.

Just wanted to throw those thoughts out there. You will have a great time no matter what!

Enjoy.

The Hotel Pupetto is more moderately priced with spacious waterfront rooms. It's on its own beach about a five minute walk from the Positano beach.

Villa Tartana was lovely. The room was beautiful. We didn't have a view room as we needed a room for four. It's nice because it's not so high up the cliffs.

Residenza La Tavalozza is very special, and on the same street (with the same views) as Le Sirenuse- Celeste is wonderful, the balconies are spacious and the accomodations perfect.

Liz, I would recommend Hotel California, where we stayed last September. It's especially nice if you're driving, as they have free indoor parking.

I would also recommend Villa Rosa Positano. We stayed there for 4 days in April and it was very nice. The staff are gracious and sitting out on the terrace was divine. We had planned to explore the area more but ended up staying in Positano the whole time and exploring the town. The tourist area is the worst at the beach front but walking up the hill from the beach in either direction was quite lovely with great views and few tourists.

There is a restaurant a few doors up the hill called Bruno which was delicious - we ate there 3 times including on the outdoor area overlooking the town and water. We wouldn't go to Cafe Positano (the staff will encourage you to try it for a 'discount'; not worth it. But all of our other food was great.
