Positano for a few hours - what to eat and do?

Hello - We are taking a private tour to Pompeii from Rome and stopping in Positano for a few hours to shop and eat. Any restaurant recommendations we should look into? Special things to do? We won't have time to swim/go on boats...and we aren't interested in limoncello tasting. We are a group of 6 w/ grandparents and kiddos... Thanks for your help!

We took Rick Steves' suggestion of going to Fornillo Beach, "a less-crowded option just around the bend (to the west) of Spiaggia Grande. It's favored by resident, with more affordable chair/umbrella rentals and a wider free area... This beach has a few humble snack bars and lunch eateries. Note that its position, tucked back in the rocks, means it gets shade earlier in the day than the main beach.

I would think the tour operator would have suggestions on where to eat.

I am having a hard time seeing how you will have 'a few hours' in Positano on this tour, (unless you are spending the night in the area.?)

By the end of the month it will be HOT at Pompeii and very little shade. Be prepared.

How long is allocated to Pompeii?

thanks all! Yes, it's going to be hot. We have a sun umbrella among other things to hopefully keep us cool. I remember - even in winter - the sun seemed to be out all the time.

Our guide will give us recommendations, I'm sure. Our time there is dependent on traffic, but I imagine 2 hours. Maybe 3. Positano is one of the few places on our trip I've never been and i always like having a POV when I travel someplace new. Especially with a group.

We aren't interested in going to a beach or swimming, but lovely lunch spots with a view would be amazing.
