I am going to Positano for a week long cooking class in August. Is there anything in particular that I should see while in the area??We will have some free time to go and explore on our own.
Thanks!
A major highlight for us was the unbelievably scenic town of Ravello. Go down to the Positano beachfront & catch a boat to Amalfi. Then hop on a local bus for the short thrill ride up to Ravello. You can also catch a boat to Capri from the Positano beachfront.
A long hike or a short bus ride to the town of Montepertuso high above Positano yields spectacular views. Have a glass of wine outside of a cafe and drink it all in.
Take in a Sunday Brunch at Le Sirunese.
You can go to Pompeii from Positano. Think it takes about hour and half, hour by bus to Sorrento and then half hour by train to Pompeii, the train drops you right off at the entrance to pompeii.
You can also go to Herculaneum, Mt. Vesuvius and Sorrento from Positano. A boat from Positano to Sorrento is very enjoyable. Sorrento is a charming town and our favorite place in Italy.
joan, My suggestion would be a day trip to Capri. There are ticket booths in the dock area. The boats often back into the dock, and then lower a ramp. Be sure to check on the times for boats back to Positano so you don't miss the last boat! You'll be getting some exercise while in Positano, as the town is mostly hills. I'd also second the suggestion to have a fine meal at Le Sirenuse. Happy travels!
Thank you to everyone for your responses! Very helpful information! Grazie!
You must have a meal at La Tagliata. The most spectacular meal (and view's) of my life. In the hills overlooking Positano. http://www.latagliata.com/en/homepage
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Naples. The Archaeological Museum there is amazing. And here's another vote for Herculaneum.
