Hi everyone,
I'm staying in Sorrento, so I'm using a driver to take me to Positano for the day in the morning and I'll take the ferry back to Sorrento. I want to see good views and cute shops, etc. My cousin told me I should eat at a fancy place called The San Pietro di Positano Hotel so I made a reservation for lunch. So I need suggestions how to arrange the day, where should I have the driver drop me off, how to get to this hotel and walking is ok for me, and then how to get back to the ferry terminal. Thanks so much.
There is a bus stop at the south end of Positano and I would recommend you get dropped off there. From that point it is a nice walk all down hill with some good views. Positano is a small village and you will have no trouble finding what you are looking for. People are friendly and will give you directions if necessary. The ferry will be on your right from the beach. Make sure you are getting of the correct ferry for your return to Sorrento. Also, make sure the ferries are running the day you travel. If the seas are to rough they do not run. Enjoy.
To get to this hotel, I'd take a taxi, as it's about 2 miles from the beach area of Positano.
Curious as to why you're hiring a private driver to Positano? The bus will get you there in the same amount of time, and the taxi can't go any faster than the vehicles in front of it. The bus stop at the top of town, referenced above is Ch. Nuova.
Be sure you know what time the last ferry leaves.
Ferry and bus schedules.

I'm curious as well? Not only will the bus get you there in the same amount of time, it'll do it much less expensively.
As Gerri noted, the hotel you've booked for lunch is not in Positano but down the coast a ways. Walking to it, along a narrow and very busy road, is not an option so take a cab OR....
The hotel info states that it provides shuttle service between their property and Positano town but it's not clear if that is only for hotel guests or applies to patrons of the restaurant as well (I would guess that it might). You could contact them and ask?

The ferry dock is right on the main beach in Positano, in front of Chez Black: hard to miss (Positano is not very big).
Well, the OP didn't give the month of the trip. But maybe they are paying for a driver so that:
1) They don't have to wait two or more bus departures to physically get on a SITA bus at the Sorrento rail station
2) They want to be assured of having a window seat, which only 25% of the seats on a bus have (not counting standees in the aisle).
3) They want to travel with fewer than 59 of their most personal friends surrounding them.
4) Their hotel is not an easy walk from the Sorrento Circumvesuviana station.
5) They hope to share the fare with someone they meet at their hotel.
I would cancel that lunch reservation.
I am sure a nice place but outside of the town you are daytripping to.
Only a 5 min drive down the road but to walk that road is not really the best idea so getting there likely means a cab to there and then back to Positano when there are plenty of restaurants in Positano itself to choose from ; really would not make sense without a car to do this.
The town is small and very vertical. From where a car can drive you walk down steps into the town where the shops are, a little further down to the church and a little further down is the beach.
You can catch the ferry from the dock area next to the beach.
Random little alleyways provide shortcuts and additional shopping options.
Great views abound.
It is the type of place you don't need a map or a plan for and cannot possibly get close, just go out and explore the town walking until you tire of doing so.
