Positano

My husband and I would like to add Positano to our trip in June, perhaps for just one night. Any advice on where to stay? The research I have done has produced some very, very expensive places!

Hi Kristen

you can stay in sorrento and enjoy not only
Positano and the Amalfi Coast but also Capri, Pompeii, herculaneum and even Naples.

I left you a message with some further information and a link.

If you're going to all the effort to get to Positano, I hope you can make it worthwhile by staying longer than just one night.

Two suggestions - the Hotel Pupetto is midrange in price. It's on its own beach a five minute walk from the main Positano beach. A good budget choice is the Pensione Maria Luisa. You can Google both.

Positano is gorgeous. We stayed at the Hotel Pasitea and we got a lot for the price, a huge patio overlooking the water, jacuzzi for 2 etc... The bus stops right there which is the the easy way to get around the town, as it is all cobblestone stairs down to the beach. It is expensive and tricky to get to so I definately would stay more than 1 night, besides you'd want to see Capri or Pompeii too. I'd say Pompeii is a not miss.
We loved it so much we shaved a day off Florence and spent it in Positano.

I'd agree that staying in Sorrento is better and doing Positano as a day trip. The more days you stay in one city, the less hassle with luggage. Sorrento is a better centralized location for hitting the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii/Herculeum and Naoles. However, Positano is a neat place but be prepared for everything being a walk up - both ways. Well, it seemed that way.

We stayed at Residence La Tavolozza in Positano in May 2005. 85 euros per night. It is in RS book. The owner, Celeste, was so nice and friendly. Her sisters and daughter were also there helping out. It is a small 8 room hotel and most of the rooms have a great sea view. The rooms and hotel are very clean. We want to go back so bad just to stay with Celeste again. Positano is a great home base. We went to Pompeii one day. We took a boat to Capri one day and did the Blue Grotto tour and it was a hoot just like RS says it is. We took the scary bus ride to Amalfi (skip Amalfi - a big tourist trap) and from there we took the bus to Ravello. (much better than Amalfi). There are excellent restaurants in Positano that are not that expensive.

Kristen, by all means stay in Positano. It is a wonderful, relaxing experience. I recommend the Hotel California. It is rather pricey, but worth it.

We are also going to Positano from June 29 - July 3rd. We are staying at the Residence la Tavolozza. Celeste is charging us 85 euros with a beautiful terrace along with a sea view. Like the above posting, she has been a delight to deal with and we do not even know her yet. Tripadvisor also gives this place high ratings. There is no website but the e-mail address is [email protected]. It is also in Rick's book. Celeste always responds quickly with any questions that you would have about the hotel or Positano. Good Luck - maybe we will see you there!

We stayed in Massa Lubrense last summer and visited Positano both by land (driving the Amalfi Coast Road) and by sea on the ferry. We decided that our next trip to that area will include the stay in Massa Lubrense AND at least two nights in Positano!!!! We really wanted to experience the night there and missed out on that.
