sandra,

It would help to know whether you have to be back on the ship at a particular time, or is that the last stop for your cruise?

It's quite easy to get to Portofino from Genova, although if you have to be back on the ship at a particular time, you'll have to make sure you're not late! Do you have mobility issues that would make walking difficult?

These are some of the times you'll have to deal with......

  • Transportation from the ship to one of the rail stations in Genova (Genova Piazza Principe seems to have the most departures).
  • Train to Santa Margherita Ligure - Porotofino (travel times range from 27 minutes to about an hour each way, depending on which train you use). If the train you use is a Regionale, be sure to validate your ticket before boarding the train or you'll risk hefty fines!
  • Walk from the station down the stairs and around the bay to the boat dock (about 20 minutes from what I remember)
  • Wait for the boat (could be half an hour or more).
  • Boat trip to Portofino - again about 20 minutes.
  • Equivalent time for the return trip.

As the weblink in the previous reply showed, travel by Taxi would be much faster, albeit much more expensive.

If you have a large budget and would prefer a private car service, something like this would be the easiest and most pleasant way to get there - https://www.enricolimo.com/car-driver-italy/transfers-and-rates-from-genoa-tigullio-portofino/ . A web search shows a number of other limo services that you could use.

Good luck!
