Does anyone know how one finds out about a bus from Monterosso to Portofino?

You need to take the train to Santa Margharita Ligure and then take the number 8 bus from there to Portofino.

Doug is "right on"! It is quite a long train ride from Monterosso, and I'm not sure there is even bus service. You do catch the #8 bus right at the Santa Margherita train terminal. We stayed at La Piccolo Hotel just as you enter Portofino and there is a bus stop just before you get there as well as in Portofino since that's as far as you can go on the penninsula.
