I will be traveling through Italy in December 2010. Is it worth driving to Portofino? Home base will be Milano. I enjoy driving, so even if it takes hours...I am OK with that. Also, don't mind if it's not FULL of tourists. I will welcome the peace and quiet.

Expensive, not much to see, full of tourists, last bit of drive out the peninsula is a boring crawl.

Jackie - Hate to say it , being Italian, BUT Portofino is one of the most expensive places in Italy. A couple of cocktails will be about $40 U.S.
If you're going that way, Santa Margherita is around the corner, so to speak, and a Beautiful spot and much more reasonable.
