Part of our Italian Vacation involves finding the town where my granfather grew up, Torre de Palma near Porto San Giorgio in Marche region of Italy. I cannot find Torre de Palma on any map, perhaps the name has changed? Also, where is the closest town to Porto San Giorgio that we can reach by train coming from venice, florence or rome, and can we rent a car there for a day to explore the marche region? Thank you for any help you can give.

I found both towns in my Michelin road atlas for Italy. Torre de Palma is very close to Porto San Giogio. It looks like Macerata and Ancona are likely possibilities for places with train stations and rental cars. Check out AutoEurope. If they don't have an office where you want, look at Maggiore. We rented from them a few years ago, because AE didn't have a place to drop off where we wanted. Maggiore has offices in tons of Italian cities. They are affiliated with Alamo and National. I believe we booked through the Alamo website. They had slightly better prices than National.
