We are staying in Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano for 2 nights in late April.

I visited Porto Ercole while staying in Orbetello years ago, and this May I'll return for a stay in Porto Santo Stefano, so I hope you'll share what you find. Last time we spent all of our time in Ucellina park, about an hour north of Monte Argentario, but this time we will maybe do a day trip to Giglio and hike on the promontory. If you get tired of the rocks, the sand beach at Feniglia is great. You can rent bikes there and ride among the pines.
We had lunch from Sandwich Club in Porto Ercole and it was great. See the blog of food writer Emiko Davies who lived in the area for more options.
In Orbetello, it was worth passing through just for gelato at Le Logge. There was a great wine shop also. Our favorite dinner was at Vecchia Cantina D'Orbetello.
If you will be driving onto the mainland and are looking for ideas there as well, just ask. It is mostly just about enjoying the views.
