Portifino/Santa Margherita

My sister is getting married in Portifino June 2010, with reception in Santa Margherita. I'm looking for lodging suggestions. Will be traveling with 2 young kids (4 and 1.5 years). Also open to suggestions on things to do in that area.

Hi Stacey - My wife and I and a half dozen travellers that I was taking on a tour stayed at -
http://www.metropole.it/eng/hstoria.htm
As you can see by looking at their website it is a Beautiful Hotel in a Spectacular setting!! I think you might like it - As you probably already know Portofino is one of the most expensive places in all of Italy so - check out the prices there very carefully - two cocktails generally run about 22 euros!! Hotel metropole also has an outstanding restaurant!
And as far as prices go - Santa Margherita is day and night cheaper than Portofino !!!!

Ciao, Greg

Portofino is a pretty expensive place to spend the night, S Mar ain't that much better. Maybe try venere.com with Rapallo as the search city. Not much for wee kids that I know of, coast is too rocky for safe swimming (it's more boating oriented); on the other hand there is some sandy beach at S Mar, but not sure if it's public. There's a pretty good aquarium at Genova (abt 25 mi) but not really sure if the kids would appreciate it. Not much, but maybe it'll get you started.

I love Santa Margherita. My last two stays were at Lido Palace which is right by the Piazza and can fit a family. I got great pricing but my last stay was in 2004 so I hope it's still good. Another great option for a family is www.vrbo.com which I've used many times. I just checked and they've got some listings for Santa Margherita.
