Is it really worth going to the Porta Portese flea market on Sunday mornings?
Dana
I think the flea markets are overrated. There are million other things you can do in Rome that would be more worth while.
I live in Rome and Porta Portese IS AN EXPERIENCE but I rarely spend more than 10 Euros there. (Of course I did get all my "knock-off" D&G, Prada, etc. there for XMAS presents to send to the states!)
There are plenty of markets in Rome that are "more fun." Here are a few you may be near!
Mondays - Saturdays
Campo de’fiori- food and flowers
Largo della Fontanella di Borghese- antique books & magazines
Via Sannio- second hand clothes & accessories
Piazza San Cosimato, Trastevere - high quality food
Piazza Vittorio Emanuele - food
Via Chiana, Trieste - food (covered)
Piazza Alessandria, Trieste- food
Via Andrea Doria – food
Via Magnagrecia - predominantly food
Tuesdays: Genzano di Roma: food
Thursdays: Via Trionfale- flowers -from 10:30
Fridays: Villaggio Olimpico, Flaminio -clothes, jewelry, food
Saturdays: Via Tirso & Via Metauro-antiques & jewelry - from 10:00
Lungotevere Capoprati - antique flea market
And plenty more - Ask your hotel!!! Good Luck!
Thank you so much for your imput on the PP market, I have now taken that off my list of "must dos"! Ron, thanks for the list of other markets and I will ask the hotel for more.
There is an article on Porta Portese on www.elegantetruria.com for insight into what the place is all about.
